What is ISO 45003?
ISO 45003 gives guidance on managing psychological health and safety at work. It covers psychosocial risks such as excessive workload, long hours, lone working, poor communication, bullying, job insecurity and exposure to traumatic events. It is a guidance standard, so it isn't certified on its own. Instead, it is designed to work within an ISO 45001 occupational health and safety management system, treating mental health risks with the same structured approach as physical hazards.
Who needs it?
- Businesses already certified to ISO 45001 that want to cover wellbeing properly
- Construction and fabrication firms, where long hours, site pressure and lone working are common
- Employers seeing rising absence, stress-related sickness or high staff turnover
- Organisations whose clients or frameworks ask about mental health and wellbeing arrangements
